I have my preferences set to no sound effects, and yet there are a couple of sounds that I can still hear - sort of a whistling and boom that might be somebody's idea of a bomb dropping? I remember asking this a long time ago and getting the answer - there is some file that should be deleted - but when I reinstalled the game the offending file got reinstalled and I can't recall which one it is.

Also torpedo firing. There's some .wav file that I have to delete, or maybe it was the whole sounds directory?

If you're still hearing sound and your preferences have sound effects turned off then that's an issue. We'll look into that.

Can you let us know exactly which settings you have enabled/disabled for sound in your preferences?

This is a long standing problem. I have "no sound effects" selected in preferences. Nevertheless, I hear a "sploosh" sound when manually launching torpedoes (though not when the AI launches them for me), I hear a "whee-boom" sound when my planes score a bomb hit, and a "honk honk" sound when one of my ships is launching missiles (even when the AI is doing it). Some time ago when I was playing the game in an earlier version, someone told me how to stop this, so it is a well-known problem, I just forgot.

Set sound volume to 0 does the trick--for everything.
