This ship was just in a raider battle where it ended up in a friendly port. ???

Ducked into a friendly port, resupplied - and received contaminated fuel forcing them to seek refuge in a neutral port.
Or perhaps they didn't resupply but miscalculated their range on the assumption they had.
Even bad weather.
It's just that this particular ship was the one that ran afoul of the RNG.
