B-17s went poofff!

The scenario is "Hard Road Ahead." I disbanded all but two squadrons of B-17s to form two larger groups with better commanders. I then set both groups to attack the port of Rabaul (from PM).

Morale was around 87 for both groups after this reorganization, fatigue around 33 after the milk runs into PM before the actual disbanding and reorganization.

When I got back the combatsave I was surprised to see only a few B-17s actually hit Rabaul--less than just one of those groups. When I opened up my turn I found out why.

The total B-17s we're talking about was around 90 planes. All of the smaller squadrons which I had disbanded into the other two had been withdrawn by the program. A check of the aircarft reinforcements listed them as disbanded/withdrawn and showed they weren't due back for 89 turns.

Is this (or similar glitches) a known issue? I've had all sorts of weird stuff happen with air assets on transfers (like a ghost Boston show up on a carrier when I transfer back a Wildcat squadron) but the loss of so many bombers (and B-17s at that) at one crack represents a major problem.

I've the files for perusal if asked.

Thanks.

B-17 where did they go

The B17's were withdrawn back to the pool because the squadrons were too big. To the right of the squadron name is a number in () that is the maximum # of aircraft the sqaudron can have.

69 BS
Squadron Us army (10) <<<< The 10 means 10 aircraft is the squadron max. This is a feature not a bug.

Also flying them with fatigue that high is asking for operational losses. The fatigue factor represents pilot fatigue as well as airframe maintenance needs. Your 17's are too important to risk that way.

I see (have seen) the parentheses. Where in the rules is it explained what that means? I can't find it.

Max-ac

The squadron max size is listed also on the Aircraft replacement schedule. As Mac AC.

It is not well documented in the manual rule 18.4 speaks to filling and balancing airunits to the Max AC. However rest assured thats what happened I made that mistake in one of my first games.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. So much for my B-17s. (You live and you learn. :))
