message to opponent in multiplayer

It seems that you can message you opponent in multiplayer. There is a small envelope on the reports icon, but I cannot see the message (if any) Any thoughts? How should it look like?

I did not take it away. Works as always.

Yes, I was just not aware how it works as always.
(the little envelope icon is still there even if there is no new message)

It should leave. Clear the message. It's been a while since I looked at the PBEM. It's a pain to setup for myself.
