Overland Supply

Gameplay question (yes, I read the rule book, can't find the answer):

I have seen supplies and fuel being shipped up to Cooktown from Brisbane (along the road I assume) automatically. My question is this......as Japan, can I land a ton of a supplies at a port on the North Coast of New Guinea (out of fighter range from PM) and count that they will be transported by trail (albeit inefficiently) to Lae? As I have not suppressed PM...things around Lae can be for vehicles of the floating variety. As I recall, the port in question is about 175 mi. away from Lae via trail hexes. The interevening bases are Japanese controlled but not garrisoned.

Please take pity on this poor, inept, UV dood.

p109. road cost is 1% lost per hex, trail cost is 10% per hex and overland/no trail is 50%

so, if the path is about 6 hexes( 180mi.) then you will lose 60% of the shipped supplies and 40% will arrive...that is how it should work out.

Right..I saw that too. But that seems to apply to overland support of units ordered on a land march. I was asking about transhipment of supplies between bases by land...automatically and in the absence of any land movement.

Well, that would be covered on p. 108 Sec 18.1 first paragraph. It basically states that the comp checks for bases that need supply, then if there are bases that have an overland connection to them and that have a "surplus" and then the supplies will be sent overland to them, using the model that is outlined on the next page,p109.

That is why in one of my games, "4 Weeks in Hell" I am having trouble getting supplies to my regiments in Lunga, as I can not currently build up enough supplies in Tassafaronga to have them shift the one hex to Lunga, as it is an overland move that will eliminate 1/2 of the supplies. Have to clear off the USN first....
