This occassionally comes up, depending on your virus scan. I post zip files of my Beta updates and hotfixes, and they're clean on my end. Players can manually scan them and possibly exempt them from their scans if necessary. Of course, the official updates posted by Matrix are clean and usually don't cause scan issues.

But, "password protected" files? Are you seeing something with PBEM files or something other than my Beta updates and hotfixes? Please clarify.

OK, I looked at these files:
update.dat - ‎August ‎26, ‎2009
earmsrez.cdd - ‎March ‎26, ‎2007
autorun.cdd - ‎September ‎19, ‎2007

They are all old legacy files from the early releases and updates, continued with the latest installers. Something to do with Matrix error-checking for a licensed product. The game needs them to run. I suspect you can exempt them from your antivirus scan and be fine. If your antivirus scan is preventing you from playing and you cannot work around that, then you should contact Matrix Support. I don't know what else to tell you? Good luck.
