I just started Marco Polo to Pearl Harbor playing China. All the small country flags and unit markings for Hunan etc. are the same except for Ma Clique. That makes it really hard to determine who belongs to who. Unless in this case the small country HQs will support other units besides their own, it would be nice to see them differentiated.

Originally all the China Minors used the same striped Republic of China (Not Nationalist China) flag. Then to help differentiate the Minor, abbreviations were added. Those are hard to see and I offered a solution that could be used in a mod. See images.

Problem about having them in the official release stems from the fiasco with Steam concerning the Chinese Nationalist flag being used and that offending the PRC. Yes true! The SC-Pacific game release was delayed by months because Steam objected. Matrix had no problem but the game could not be released till the game flag(s) were redone.
That is why there is a Historical Flag Mod here that can be used to replace the vanilla flag with the historically accurate flag of Nationalist China. That mod is in the Mod Thread.

So anyways I have images of abstract China Minors. I offered them as a replacement for the 'lettered' flags. They are not historical, because the use of real Warlord or Provincial flags may also have been hung up by Steam. So also my abstract ones.

Anyways here's the images. If anyone wants to run with them they are all yours, or perhaps the devs could incorporate them in an official mod.
