Supply Convoy Interdiction

Is it possible to effectively cut off supply to units supplied via sea using Supply Convoy Interdiction?
E.g. if it is a size 2 port sometimes it destroys 40, 20 or 0 supply. If it destroys 40 does it mean (in this case) that the unit is out of supply? Is it possible to starve the unit so it starts to lose strength?
Why sometimes there is no Supply Convoy Interdiction even though the same ships are present as in the previous turn. Does the supply state of the blockading ships matter? Does it matter if they are in yellow state (only 1 supply left)?
Is there difference if the same number of ships is split into individual units (e.g. fleet of three or 3 fleets with one ships each)?

No because it was effectively impossible in reality except for small islands. You can reduce their supply where they do not recover much effectiveness. Take for example Libya. If you are the UK are you sitting on every port for months on end to starve the Italians on this 1,800 km coast? You can't possible patrol that. Somehow the Italians would sneak in supplies. Maybe if you used your entire fleet buring fuel 24/7, 30 days a month.

Malta can, Gibraltar can. Those are small islands that can be easily patrolled.
Rhodes is a bit too large though.

Hi, I'm enjoying the game. I myself was wondering about the above. The second part of the OP's question in particular which you didn't touch upon. The devil is in the details.
1/Does the supply state of the blockaders matter? Is "5" more effective than "1". I assume no supply will not interdict anything.
2/Does the number of blockaders matter? Are 15 strength points better than 5? Are two stacks better than one? (all things being equal)
and if I may add....
3/Does Raider mode work and is it just as effective?
4/Does distance matter....is being next to the port you're blockading better than being up to the maximum 4 hexes? (for naval).
Cheers

I missed it.

#1 Navies need to be in supply to block supply. Ships with no fuel and no ammo can't attack transports shipping supplies.

#2 If I remember more navies do impact supply. You have more ships patrolling. You don't need much. It's been a while since someone asked this question.

#3 Raider mode just means "I don't want to engage others and I can't attack others". You can convoy raid or block supply in either mode.

#4 you can impact supply within 5 hexes. But if you want to fully block the special hexes like Gibraltar or Malta you have to be next to the port and no enemy fleet is next to the port.

The naval system was a complex beast to design. Many players have commented in reviews and posts that it is the best naval system out there for a game like this. It isn't perfect but it hits all the right marks with enough of a touch of realism. I did a lot of research on naval battles. I watched/read every surface and carrier engagement on the internet to design it.

So yes it has flaws, like the submarine cheese blockage but I am hoping I can fix this next patch. I am thinking of how to accomplish this without impacting everyone's games.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate a designer who still responds to queries about the older games even while trying to get a newer game to the frontline. Cheers.
