Automated Scout Ship Bug

I'm using the official update version 1.3.0.3 with the 4 DLC's installed and no mods. I had a problem with a fully automated scout ship that kept recycling it's search mission without moving from the spot for a very long time before I noticed the problem. It had discovered an abandoned colony ship which I ended up repairing with a construction ship. It's mission was to automatically explore the star system it was in. The automated scout never left the position after finding the abandoned ship, just kept scanning the same adjacent gas giant planet over and over. I kept wondering why it wasn't going to scan the other planets like one that was very habitable and would make a good colony in the same system. I finally put it on manual and sent it to the planet I wanted explored for colonization.

I'm trying to trust the Artificially Ignorant automation but it's tough when I see stupid nonsense like this. I'd rather be able to trust the automation for scouts so that I'm not wasting time micromanaging them. After remembering how pathetic the AI was when scouting a year ago I still see room for improvement. Now when I encounter a fleet of abandoned ships I send a scout on manual to go to each one manually as I can't trust the AI from what I saw a year ago. A year ago an automated scout would encounter one of the abandoned ships and then go off scouting something else instead of focusing on scouting each individual ship one by one before then going to scout something else.

I had my second occurrence of this bug in my first game back. Yet again a scout finds an abandoned colony ship and then goes braindead. This time it didn't even continue scanning; it just went dead in space doing nothing. Really hope this bug gets fixed ASAP as it's really annoying I have to now micromanage fully automated scouts anytime they find abandoned colony ships.

Same here. I used to play exclusively manually. But the more you advance in a game, the more you have to delegate to automation, otherwise the micromanagement gets insane. So I'm trying to use the automation. But man, in it's current state, it sometimes feels as if you're using a squirrel to file your taxes!

So, one way or the other, you go insane:
  • If you don't use automation, you go insane late game because of the amount of micromanagement
  • if you use automation, you go insane because of what it does!

@100th Monkey - A classic case of damned if you do and damned if you don't! For the major stuff never trust an Artificial Ignorance no matter what stage the game is in. The Artificial Ignorance is a perfect example of GIGO - Garbage In - Garbage Out. Now that I'm back playing I'm seeing firsthand just how poorly thought out so many AI aspects are and will be doing a post on my thoughts of what's wrong.

Looking forward to it!

A save showing this issue will help track it down and resolve it. Do you happen to have a save with the issue in action and one from just before?

Sadly I don't have a saved game file. I'm a paying customer, not a beta tester.
