I actually consider War in the Pacific superior to War in the West, which I played extensively. Compared to post-cold war era games I'd place it alongside Command Modern Operations.

Huge congratulations to the dev team and the amazing community that has supported and enriched this masterpiece.

That said, it must be said that only players who can tolerate unending detail and enjoy little victories (like getting a shipload of supply to an isolated island) will stick with the game. Brilliant major battles are far between - but all the more enjoyable for the months of build-up you have to set them up. That investment of time makes it exciting.
