Differences between playing versus the AI and human opponents.

Hello,
I am planing to play my first GC against a human, I just played H2H a small scenario a few years ago and got defeated fast.
Now, after hundreds of hours versus the AI I am more experienced, but I am thinking about about how to adapt versus a human opponent. The AI plays surely different than a human.
I want to play as the Axis in the GC 1941.

I think one big difference will be that I will have to make the pockets way more secured, than versus the AI.

Also I am thinking about the air war. There the AI is not very active and the human player could be way more active. Interdiction and other missions.

Any hints are highly welcomed.

Hi,

not sure how much of help my current experience can be but as the Soviets on T9-T10:
- the opening pockets were tightly secured by regimented motorized divisions. My opponent did not trust having enough ZOCs and he made sure that there was a continuous ring of troops around the main encirclements.
- in mid summer (late July, T6-T7) I managed to have enouch troops on the Moscow axis to re-open one pocket by defeating two of his motorized regiments. So make sure you proceed with smaller pockets but well defended with entire divisions as you carry on with the campaign.
- remember that your fighters and recon air groups are your most valuable assets. My opponent correctly is not flying his bombers/Stukas air groups and he is mauling my VVS with his Bf-109 F-2 and F-4.
- take care of your logistics. My opponent invested two weeks (turns) in just resting his units and doing things that I will never know. While on the forum there are way more aggressive players, I quite enjoy his playstyle, as it forces me to redirect my reserves along the most threatened regions of the front.

Hello,

thanks for the interesting reply.

I am following your channel on YouTube and I am looking forward to see how your multiplayer match will proceed!
And I have watched nearly all off your tutorial videos about Wite2.

Unlearn everything you learned playing against the AI. (I am afraid if you play an experienced Soviet you could get your arse handed to you, Germany takes a bit to master than playing the easy side (Soviets))

Playing Germany you have to learn the art of doing the most with the least amount. It is a finesse that takes a bit to master but once mastered it is fun as heck :)

Your most important assest are your Fighters/Fighter-bombers. Master them along with AS and you will go far.

Above all things is "SUPPLY". Learn it more than anything else, your existance as a German player depends on it. Get to the point that your supply allows you to use all your Air Force on the map. Yes, it can be done and am doing it in my current game.

Oh, did I mention Supply? Just in case I didn't you have to know supply inside and out.

Lastly the most important item is supply.

Good luck and many here are willing to help

PS - Make sure you understand supply and how ports work (closing many of the ports on the coast in NE Germany)

PSS - study supply ;-P (it is that important)

Apart from supply also be aggressive. (one follows the other)

It may be easier to play the Soviets but up against a good Axis player, for the first 40+ turns your hands are tied behind your back and you get stomped on. Then you lose.

Thanks for the replies Gentlemen!
I have started the Road to Leningrad scenario in a H2H match and my main pocket did not hold on T1!
Against the AI it always holds in the way I do the starting turn in the north. I have checked why it did not hold and therefore I can do it next time better.

How many matches do you play simultaneously?
I think that the smaller scenarios can be played several of them parallel without it getting to a full time job playing WitE2, but I am wondering if there are any players who play several multiplayer campaigns at the same time?

Could you elaborate further on this comment? Have been lurking in the forums, looking to read the posts of those who are knowledgeable about this game in an effort to get back into playing it again. I have been reading your Turn 1 Axis guide step by step as I prepare myself to give this a go against the AI, at least until I can figure out the basics.

The Turn 1 guide is a bit dated so please realize that. After my writing that the Devs put in some minor rivers in some places and some terrain additions.

I did a post long time ago on ports drawing supply to them. I believe it may still be valid but been away for awhile and is here https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 6&t=389769
