Hey I just bought the game since I saw it was on sale and as I like the WDS games I thought this will be fun. However once I start a scenario or campaign I see the UI and hear the sounds just fine, but the background/map is basically blank.

Does anyone know a fix for this? I searched the forums and there are/were issues of the game not starting because a Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Update was needed, but the game is starting for me...I just dont see anything lol.

Did you install the Updates?

Ideally, you'll want to install the base game, then 2.02 and then the 2.04 BETA.

Let me know if that's the case.

I have the same problem; bought the game just now. Got version 1.01 en then installed update. What am I missing?

If you go to about, which version does it say you are running?

About: Version 1.01 with recent installed update 2.05 (for East front, West front and Rising Sun). I've attached a screenshot to my post.

On the lower right hand side of the desktop, do you have an NVIDIA App?

If so, try turning off the NVIDIA overlay.

Turned off nvidia overlay, but to no effect. I always get same screen as I posted earlier. I really don't know how to fix this...

You might have to try the following:

PHASE III


After it has installed, use Windows Explore to browse to your John Tiller's Campaign Series folder

Locate and select a file named "autorun.exe".

Press the right mouse button and select "Properties".

Click on the "Compatibility" tab.

Tick the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

Tick the option "Run this program as an administrator".

Click on "Apply" and "Ok". Double click on "autorun.exe" for running the program and check if the issue persists.

At this point, it should work. If not....


PHASE IV (Optional)

If it does, enter each of the game folders and repeat the process for each of the game Application files:

For example: East Front.exe, ef.exe, efedit.exe, efmap.exe, eforg.exe.

After this, you should be golden.



If that doesn't work, you'll likely have to contact support.

Sorry for the troubles.

Well, Jason, I was already in contact with support and they insisted on updating my intel graphic drivers which, with help of installing intel assistant, finally worked and... after that it worked.

Support also told me that this (old) game (which I knew form earlier days) only worked on intel graphic driver and that came for me as a big surprise.... I have a pretty powerfull gaming laptop with a top nodge nvidia graphics card and then this game won't work? Well, well....

So I told support that maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to tell potential customers that updating graphic card from Intel is vital if you want to avoid trouble with this game.

To be on the positive side, it learned new things about computers and that is never a bad thing.

Oh yes, I forgot: the game works fine now and it feels like a trip down memory lane....

Oh wow, I had no idea.

I'm using a 3080Ti and don't have any issues. I assumed it was using the card. *laughs*
