In-Theatre Repairs

Does anyone know whether the game treats the system damage repaired in port differently than that done at Pearl or Tokyo? I rested a couple of DDs with relatively minor sys damage (about 16) for a week to 10 days, got the sys damage down to 8 or 9 and the sent them out again. One day out of port, on a clear day, just cruisin', they were both back up to sys damage of 15. Certainly new ships don't accumulate damage this fast, but I don't think that even the ones that are holding at the sub 10 level normally jump like this in clear weather.
Are in-theatre repairs considered to be "jury-rigged" and therefore more susceptible to repeat damage?

I've noticed the same, but assumed that as I didn't get the damage down to zero, they accumulated new damage quicker. I have heard that US forces get upgraded AA defenses on ships sent back to Pearl Habour. Unfortunately, being a newbie, I can't confirm this as Nimitz/King won't send me back my carrier I sent to them for repair.

There is like a "random event factor" that a ship can sustain damage just "cruisin' about" if you will. Every hex a ship moves carries a chance of accruing System damage. The Experience of the Ship's crew as well as the Commanding Officer's abilities affect how that ship deals with damage.
Read the following in the Manual:
- 11.5 Damage to Ships
- 11.6 Operational Damage and Repairs at Sea
- 16.1 Impact of Port Size

That doesn't happen.

Getting it back depends on a few things. Do you have many ships in Theatre already? Do you have at least 4 DD's to escort it?

From the standpoint of a former operations officer on a destroyer sized vessel which had been underfunded for a decade or so (a US Coast Guard Cutter of WWII vintage) I think the accumulation of operational sys damage just doesn't feel right. Nickel dime stuff happens from day to day but tends to get fixed from day to day.
Acoupla pts of sys damage oughta accrue to all ships immediately or sooner because of marine growth on the hull and should never go away and a point or two variation every day at sea (up or down) seems reasonable but time needed to restore a ship with about 10 sys feels excessive. Figure it ought to be only 3-4 days. The guys who ran these steam plants (mostly) on these ships were MACHINIST Mates. If they didn't have the parts they needed or couldn't find them they could make them in their own shops or certainly on a tender (no sub or destroyer tenders in the game but they were around).
Our fire control system (of WWII vintage) broke and the Navy had no parts for it (In fact it was so old that the MCPO FT at GITMO had never even seen the system in 20 odd years in the Navy). Our FTs and an MM restored the system to perfection in 2 days fabricating the parts required from scratch.
But then again, you don't have the catastrophic kind of materiel casualty either (Remember the Maine, I mean Mutsu) so maybe it's just the best system that can be devised with a reasonable amount of programming code.
Just as a minor historical aside - the Chief Gunners Mate on the BIBB restored our main battery (5"/38) with parts he traded for (none of us officer's wanted to know what) off the USS Massachusetts.......
Museum in Fall River.
