True update client doesn't work

Alright I can't figure out anymore troubleshooting steps.
I've updated the game manually to the latest stable patch. I've triple checked that both Shadow Empire and the True update client have access through the firewall.
The updater client gets to the creating a handle window but no progress appears and then it gives me the error window telling me to contact matrixgames for support.
What am I missing?
