Playing the tutorial and was able to get ashore on Omaha easily. The Casualties after 4 turns seems very light, especially for the Allied side.

Yep . . . Historically V Corps suffered 2,400 Dead, Wounded, and Missing.
How do the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions look Readiness-wise (a.k.a., the heart)?
Don.

The tutorial is designed to illustrate the features/mechanics of the game, and may not be historically accurate with regard to casualties. The AI stance, whether hold or withdraw, would have an effect too.
One of the other beachhead scenarios may be a better indicator whether the game is properly handling casualties.

116th (29th Infantry Division) makes sense / They were the 29th’s Assault Wave.
How does the 1st Infantry Division look?
Don.

1st is in even better shape. I looked at saves from turn 2 and 3 and never went below 80% effectiveness.

Playing the 135 Overloard Campaign. End of June 6th. D-Day looks like a smashing success. Casualties very light.

Historically Omaha beach suffered about 2400 casualties on D-Day (killed, wounded and missing). Given that an average US infantry division had a paper strength of about 12,000 - 14,000 men, you'd expect overall casualties to be roughly 10% for each division (especially since far more than just two divisions were landed on Omaha that day). Granted some individual small units suffered up to 30% casualties on the day of the landings, overall the divisions themselves did not suffer massive numbers of losses. Both divisions remained on the line and continued offensive operations without any pause at all. Historically it is said that the toughest part of the Atlantic wall faced by the allies on D-Day (Omaha beach) caused only about a 6 hour delay in operations.
So I see no real cause for concern given the casualties we are seeing in game. The beaches are if anything harder to advance past in game than was seen historically.

On Turn 3, when it arrives, recommend exploiting with the Allied armor. Don.
