Helicopter Capacity

Is there any relationship between helicopter strength and platoon strength? Looks like a 4 strength helicopter can load a 6 strength platoon but what happens when you only have a 3 strength helicopter? I played around a little and a 2 strength helicopter can load a 4 strength platoon. But is there some relationship to calculate this?

Hello Jim,

Transports can load foot soldiers at a 2:1 ratio. For anything else, it's a 1:1 ratio. So, for example, an SP3 helicopter can still carry a full-strength SP6 rifle platoon. However, it can only load an SP3 howitzer—one helo per howitzer, but a full squad per helo, in other words.

There’s often some redundancy built into transport units (especially with trucks), so even if one vehicle is lost, the unit can still be quite effective for the tasks at hand.

Thanks! Just curious, is this spelled out in the rules somewhere that I missed?

That was a good question, Jim. I found it explained under 3.1.4 How do I use Transport Units?.
