Nation and Player

Hello everyone,

I'm currently experimenting with mods for the game and I'm running into some issues. I'd like to try something like WITE + WITW, for example, as discussed in this thread: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=407304.

However, when I attempt to assign a unit with specific parameters (Nation: USA, Player: USSR), the Player parameter gets reset to "None" and the unit becomes inactive on the map for both the German and Soviet sides. This issue also occurs with other alliances as well.

To resolve this, I could specify "Nation: Soviet Union" and "Player: USSR" in the unit settings, but this would cause the unit icon to look like a Soviet unit entirely, which would disrupt the overall atmosphere.

It's likely that the game engine is rigidly binding the Nation to the Player side. When Nation: USA and Player USSR are specified, the game doesn't understand this logic and resets the settings.

But since there are Axis satellites, which means the German player can control Finland, Slovakia, Romania, and Hungary as separate countries, I suspect it is possible to make the USA and Britain satellites of the USSR in order to avoid violating the logic/system of the game. So far, I have not found such a feature in the editor, but it may be possible to change it in the game files.

However, if for some reason it is still not possible to do so, perhaps it would be possible to visually modify individual icons for Soviet units to make them resemble those of the Allied forces? In any case, I would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions!

You have to lock the general data, old editor 1st tab middle/bottom left therenis a "lock" text-button (os so) to have changes to a scenario locked.

I personally would suggest to not spent too much time with this and do actual modding on the eastern front, we can not change sufficiently much when it comes to modding, which would allow us to make a WarInEurope happen e.g. nations, ships...). Optically we also only have one Counter color on Soviet side + Guards red.
Every Allie would have to be a Soviet and Soviets have baked in modifiers which are/would not be representative of Allied performance. You could make an Brit an Ammi without issues concerning their combat value but you can't make an Ammi or Brit into an Russ. This counts 100fold as much for Air performance.

Thank you for such a quick reply!

Yes, I agree that such characteristics can affect the unrealistic behavior of units. Maybe I'll try to come up with something to balance it out, or maybe I really won't do it, and follow your advice. For now, I'm just trying my hand at the editor of this game.

The ships are still really problematic.

As for blocking any data, if I understand correctly, you are talking about "Lock Generic Data: Yes and No". I have blocked the data, but the problem remains, I even checked it in WITW, nothing has changed, at a certain nation it resets to "Player: Nope". Maybe I misunderstood you or did something wrong :(
