Playing full campaign as allies vs computer

Could I get some guidance on PP usage. Basically I have just hoarded them, using small amounts for transferring planes to frontline use. It’s June 44 and I am on the offensive and I think it’s time to transfer some large LCU’s .

Thanks

Can you post a picture of your strategic map? Just curious, because if it's June 1944 and you haven't bought out any units that makes me think, How far back are you from Japan?....GP

My 0.02 Euro cents:

PPs should be spent in order of importance to 1. replace really bad leaders, 2. to buy-out restricted air units and 3. to buy-out restricted ground units.

PPs are precious and should not be wasted. For example, changing leaders on non-combat ships and rear-area base forces would be a waste (unless in order to free-up a good leader already assigned). Buying-out units that will withdraw later is a waste of PPs as well.

The PP costs depend on the number of (undamaged?) devices in the unit and - if I am not mistaken - their load costs. That's why some small heavy arty units are quite expensive. Buying-out a full division can cost 2000 to 3000 PPs. To save a few PPs, do not accept replacements for units you intend to buy, and maybe keep them at a place with low supplies, lack of support and with leaders bad in Admin skills in order to slow the "healing" of damaged devices.

Focus should be on buying-out USA units, because of the better replacement rates for devices. Better spend PPs on a US Infantry division which can be kept up-to-strength rather than on an Indian or Australian division which may never gain full strength after combat losses due to small replacement pools.

Early in the war, buying-out support units like base forces, Eng, AA, tanks, arty might be more beneficial than hoarding points for releasing an infantry division.

I your situation, i would buy-out in order of importance any US Marine Corps ground units, followed by USA infantry divisions, combat engineers, tanks, arty, air units, the rest.

There are ways to reduce the costs of some units in the long run. For air units that you know will increase their size, buy them out before they increase. I do believe that for air units, it is the size of the unit and not the number of aircraft in them that determines the cost of the unit.

There are also ways to increase the number of PPs that you have. If an air unit is going to disband/withdraw, doing so even just 1 day prior to that date will give you some PPs. Some units will give you the aircraft but may be delayed before showing up in your stockpiles while others will not let you keep the aircraft. So if a unit is going to let you keep the aircraft, make sure that they are all working before you disband the unit. Even if the aircraft are not very good ones, they can be used to replace better aircraft in other units that will disband. The not very good aircraft can also be used for training purposes or even, depending upon the type, for naval search and/or aerial ASW purposes.

Don't know about the Japanese side which changes aircraft models through industrial means, but Allies have pre-set upgrade paths for aircraft (can be different for each unit). For example some Aussie Wirraway units are set to upgrade to fighters, some to dive bombers and some to level bombers IIRC.
If you want to deviate from that upgrade path it may cost you considerable PP. Long range aircraft seem to be particularly expensive - 100 PP for some upgrades. Choose carefully, and of course consider whether the unit can be made Unrestricted or withdraws before you upgrade.
