WEGO Overlord - Retreat Question

So, figured out that there has to be a valid route or a unit marked "retreat" in the combat results doesn't. But. Why do units not retreat when there IS a valid route? Not really seeing a lot of units get ashore.

Very likely they were ordered to “Hold at All Cost” (and it was a Success) . . . In other words they obeyed their orders.
By any chance do you have a screenshot of the Combat Results?

Thank you for your reply. Eventually, I surmised the same thing, but the combat results boxes are misleading.
The first line says "Hold at All Costs (Success)"
The second line says "Defender Retreats"
I gather the success trumps the retreat. But, at 15:1 odds, it's frustrating when zero attacks succeed in getting ashore.

Hi, sometimes the odds are inaccurate too due to Fog Of War. The odds being based on an invalid estimate of the defender. Not sure of the actual battle there, but yes, a 15:1 attack not getting ashore isn't normal!

So, I've been paying attention to the "planned" combat odds and the odds reported in the detailed combat results table, and there is indeed a sometimes heavy drop in the planned versus actual odds. However, there are still a large number of heavy odds (10:1 plus) in the actual results where the defender "holds at all costs (success)" followed by "defender retreats" where the defender did in fact hold at all costs. After multiple attempts, I haven't come anywhere near to the historical results, particularly in the British/Canadian sectors where sometimes no units get ashore until the evening. Is this really what was intended with "hold at all costs?"

Recommend you take a look at Developer Diary #4 and try the suggested approach to the Brit and Canadian Beaches.
Not the 100% answer; a.k.a., works every time. The “dice gods” get a vote. But it gives you a good chance of getting ashore at each Beach.
