WRA behavior - Auto fire multiple missiles

I noticed that e.g. a Ticonderoga equipped with SM2, SM6 and ESSM will fire one of each missile at an incoming anti-ship missile. It seems that the WRA triggers for all of them independently leading to overkill. Optimally, I would want to use only ESSM at close range.

Is this behavior intended and how do I limit overkill?

It sounds like a similar issue to what I reported back on Build 1662. I don't think it's been fixed yet.

You can set the wra of each weapon manually. For example trun off auto firing for one and just reserve it for self defense at close ranges

I think what he's talking about is an oldish complaint of using the wrong missile for the job. That would be saving ESSMs for close in defense. The AI will happily fire SM-6s at an AShm 10 nm away instead of saving it for longer-ranged engagements. Its not easy to do that today.

Can you please post a save?

A single unit should be firing one single weapon against the same target.

If there are two different units with different missiles that can engage the missile, then yes, as Tempest explained, there's an overkill in those cases

Thank you all for the replies!

It seems that it looks like the issue TempestII pointed out. I attached a short scenario demonstrating this.

Scenario
2x Tico cruisers defending against various types of anti-ship missiles.

Defending missiles: ESSM, SM-2(Blk IIIA and Blk IIIB), SM-6 (Blk IA and Dual I)

Tico 1: WRA fire ESSM, SM-2A, SM-2B
Tico 2: WRA fire ESSM, SM-2A, SM-2B, SM-6A, SM-6 Dual
I know that in a normal scenario there would only be one type of SM-2/6 on a single ship.

WRA is set to fire at 10 nm (1x missiles vs subsonic, 2x missiles vs supersonic), no self-defense.

Anti-ship missiles:
Harpoon - subsonic sea skimmer
AS-4 kitchen - supersonic
Exocet - supersonic sea skimmer (wrongly classed in game, but good enough for this test)

Results
Tico 1 vs subsonic sea skimmer: fires ESSM, SM-2A
Tico 1 vs supersonic, fires; SM-2A, SM-2B, ESSM at close range
Tico 1 vs supersonic sea skimmer: fires ESSM, SM-2A, SM-2B

Tico 2 vs subsonic sea skimmer: fires SM-6A
Tico 2 vs supersonic: fires SM-6A, SM-6 Dual, ESSM at close range
Tico 2 vs supersonic sea skimmer: fires SM-6A, SM-6 Dual

Note: I did not investigate effect of number of available fire control channels/radars.

Conclusion
Overkill on sub- and supersonic sea skimmers by Tico 1. Tico 2 uses the wrong missiles for the job as pointed out by thewood1.
