Replacement squadrons on CVEs

What is the process for getting replacement aircraft from the replacement squadrons on CVEs onto fleet carriers? Do you have to transfer the whole squadron at once? Does it happen automatically if the CVE and fleet carriers are close enough? If true, how close?

Request replacements at the gaining air unit.

The air unit is located on a ship and a replenishment air unit is within normal range of the ship, the unit will receive planes from the replenishment unit instead of the pool.

And they're ready right away....GP

Adding to the question....Is the replacement request subject to the same 6-day waiting period as land-based replacements? Or can you take planes from replenishment squadrons more often?

That's something I've never tested nor even thought about to be honest or again come across in the game. I say it's just where they come from and not the process, so yes

Curiosity got me. The above is incorrect, I've just tested it and there is no limit.
A CVE with replenishment groups do need to be in a replenishment TF and be withing normal range other than that you free to draw as many ac as needed until they either run out or the units max number of ac is reached. There's also a limit on how many ac are taken in any one request.
I tested using a downfall scen giving CV Franklin a 100 hellcats unit with only 5 ac and nothing else.
For manual it appears to be 12 with replcements taken from only one CVE per request even if that CVE doe not have 12 to give. A CVE must be emptied before drawing from another.
For auto it appears to be 22 per request? Odd number but it was consistant for a 100 strong Hellcat unit so may change for other sized units. Auto will only draw once per trun but you can then manually request.

22 aircraft sounds like a deckload for a CVE to launch.
One thing for the OP to check - many of the replacement pilots are rookies - not trained enough for the big time. See if you can replace the pilots with veterans before the transfer to the CV.

I train up the replacement units pilots. That way I have no problems. It takes a little longer but it works....GP

And if you don't want to use those CVEs and their units in Replenishment TFs, their air units are really handy in training reserve/replacement pilots.
Especially naval torpedo pilots are impossible to train without torpedo planes. Float planes can be used to train other types of naval pilots.

Torpedo plane pilots can be trained on PBYs but there are better uses for those aircraft.
