Attacking planetary installations

A planet i want to invade is protected by a big gun. The planet information tab provides an option -clear defenses but so far none of my fleets is responding. Maybe i need a bigger fleet? but since i can find nothing, there are no warnings presented, i tried to have a fleet manually engage. The problem is, in the fleet action menu there is no option specifically aimed at precision striking ground defenses. Is there a way to do this manually?

Also, a military manager would be appreciated. Moving and ordering troops from a tab sounds nice and provides a nice place where you have your military info in one place

Do you have bombardment capable weapons? Defensive facilities are quite resistant to space weapons with small bombardment values. You need dedicated bomb components to take them out. And even then, it might be more time efficient to just straight up invade the place.

If your fleets are automated, they are likely calculating that they can't take out the facility before it kills them. And troop transports might not want to go due to their engagement settings figuring they'll sustain heavy damage. Or you don't have enough troops to take over the planet.

yea i went different paths.... Ion shield upgrades for the troop transports to ensure they can reach the planet before blowing up from ion cannon shells, I lost 3 troop transports the first time i tried to invade the planet, the third managed to deliver half of its complement, Destroyers yielding nuclear missiles to strike ground targets it's just that i don't want the negative rep impact from carpetbombing a planet for no good reason.... and since the fleet menu does not offer a 'clear defenses' mission i also found a 'cheese' option where i pretend to blockade the planet and when every ship is in place we switch to invasion... decreasing the time those dreaded cannons can fire on my shippies!
i also think this can be done with a 'fake'refuel order possible creating even less distance between the planets surface and the landing vehicles
