Differences between these scenarios:

Even knowing more or less some differences, I'm curious about the differences in unit numbers, events, map size, length, scope of the conflict, historical accuracy and overall complexity between:

- Directive 21;
- Campaign Barbarossa;
- Russo-German War;
- Russo-German War (variant);
- FITE 2.

As far as I understood, FITE is PBEM only (others have PO). Campaign Barbarossa scope's is only the first 2 years of the East conflict, but has the most extensive map. FITE is the most complex in terms of events, but I don't know if it's also more complex in other aspects. Russo-German I trully don't know any difference.

P.S.: if you don't want or don't know how to answer all the questions inside my post, you can only point some things and especially, if you can, point the historical (in)accuracies of these scenarios (I'm kinda "fanatic" about historical accuracy).

Directive 21 is a well done human vs programmed (scripted?) opponent. This is the one to play if you have limited time and no human opponent or don't care to play solitaire. Still, it will take some time to complete. If I recall the scale is 10km per hex.

Campaign Barbarossa covers that campaign up to 31 December using historically accurate unit deployments, reinforcements and replacements as researched by Nigel Askey using his set of books, Operation Barbarossa: The Complete Organisational and Statistical Analysis. The far north area isn't portrayed. For the Soviets it has a psuedo production method. It does not have a programmed opponent. Head to head or solitaire only. It will take longer to play than the real campaign by a factor of three or four. The scale is 2.5km per hex and one day turns.

Russo-German War I can't say. Never opened it up.

FITE 2 is a remake of FITE with some improvements. I won't give my personal opinion but if you can find someone who will take part in this give it a try. It will also take a good amount of time. 5 or 6km per hex and half week turns.

The three I'm familiar with take a good amount of time to play. It's always 'fun' to compare any scenario with what went on historically as far as how accurate reinforcements are and how that affects gameplay and the game's outcome compared to history. Some of these have options to deviate from history. Some don't. Hopefully someone else will give you their opinions. Good luck. ;)

Thank you a lot!! Btw, aren't you the creator of Campaign Barbarossa? I might be wrong though, lol.

You are correct. I'm one of those insane people that likes monster scenarios.

I'm a huge Russo-German War player/fan - it is Directive 21, but with an either/or PO and a more polished/updated version as it's been worked on recently.

I always play the Soviets.
