Greetings :)

A few of the old timers may remember me - JanS. I could not make my old login work unfortunately.

Some 20+ years ago I sent Joel Billing a message asking if they wanted me to take a look at their code for the original GGWaW - their main programmer Keith was tied up with other projects so I offered to fix a few bugs for the fun of it.

I ended up working freelance for 2by3 Games for a few years - while working a regular job as a high school teacher - and I had great fun both playing the games and working on AWD and a Civil War game. I seem to remember that another gamer else took over the freelance position after I stopped.

I also had great fun playing against some high quality players - I just reread a few of the AARs from those games and they brought back good memories.

A few weeks ago I reinstalled GGAWD and have played a few games solo against the AI since. A decisive win as the Axis on Hard (Arsenal of Democracy) and a Drew as the Allies also on Hard (Axis Blitz). I made a few really stupid mistakes in the latter preventing me from landing in Japan in the Fall taking the game down to a Draw.

I just installed the unofficial 1.071 mod which I intend to play next. Much appreciate the hard work on that Jesse.

Hi Jan, long time not seen.
Of course I remember you. GGWAW was the first beta I participated in. Back then, it was like a whole new world, and I was amazed to be part of the beta team trying to polish and enrich the game with suggestions for improvement. I have very fond memories of those days testing this game.
Happy New Year!!!

Hi Jan. Great to hear from you! Thanks for all your help back then. Now with the help of AI, you can make your own game if you want. :D
