This game is released in a week and there is almost no pr for the game and no hype at all. Why that? Is release still January 22?

Per Matrix/Slitherine rules, their marketing department is in charge of all pre-release videos/screenshots. We've given them quite a lot of video and screenshots per their request. Hopefully that material will appear soon !

Release is still set for 22 Jan 2026.

It's still pretty vague about game details, and has no gameplay footage.

I have the first part of a tutorial series almost ready to go out, but as it has gameplay, details from the manual etc. it is covered by an NDA and so cannot be released until 22 January.

Marketing of the game has not been very good IMHO. Oh, I'll buy it because I love what you guys did with WITPAE, but there hasn't been much promo (and I'm the target audience) nor has a release time been published. On these very forums a Matrix employee titled the thread as releasing Jan 26 but was corrected inside the thread. I hate to sound too critical but I love these kinds of games and want to see them succeed and some of us aren't getting any younger so marketing needs to work on targeting new players, much less old ones that are shoe ins to buy despite it.

EDIT: Take a look at the Matrix store. No mention of it releasing today on the front page. If you go to the "coming soon" submenu, it's way down 6-8 games from the top. I would think a game releasing today would make the front page of the store? Instead, they have WITPAE, WITE2 and other great, but really old games as their headliners?

I completely agree with you! I don't want to be too critical either, because I love these games and I want this game to be successful. And I don't want to criticize the development team, who are not to blame for the poor PR. But unfortunately, the publisher Matrix Games really does deserve criticism here.

I have rarely seen worse PR for a game. No one expects a marketing campaign in the style of big studios like CD Projekt Red or Bethesda. But I cannot understand why they would not advertise their new game at all, especially since it is supposed to be the first of many more new games using this engine.

The four developer diaries are also PR, of course, but for a game that is supposed to follow in the big footsteps of WITP AE, that's pretty disappointing.

Please understand I/we aren't critizing you John and appreciate all you did for WITPAE betas, AI scripts, etc as well as this new game. I just don't understand why Matrix doesn't have a new game on the front page of their store (even if not release for pre-buy, how about a banner with coming Jan 22!). Instead, the headline game in GG Bombing the Reich? Really? A great game but really old.

As actrade says, the criticism is absolutely not directed at the developers, but exclusively at the publisher. We know that you have put a lot of work into video material. I just don't understand why Matrix Games won't allow this material to be published at least 2-3 days before release.
