Republican Columnas parent units don’t act as HQs.

Dunno if it is wad/wai but none of the parent Columnas I am getting as republican are acting as HQs of their subunits. I realized cause couple of the units of Bayo Baleares Columna de Milicia ( parent 8426) subunits appeared with the “attached to” already filled with “Bayo Baleares Columna de Milicia” when almost any other subunit in game appear with that field empty. Namely the logistic 8427 and couple companies de infanteria 8429 and 8430. Seeing that I don’t know if those 3 units should have their “attached to” field empty or alllllllll the rest of subunits should be able to be attached to their parents columnas as HQ. So far I am attaching every single subunit to one of the big HQs I have in game: Ejercito Español, Sur, Levante or Aragon HQs.

PD: Umh now I think about it there are some coastal defence units that had that field filled with 4º Cdo CD Regimiento.

I was noticing this too. Units which are HQ like, and have an HQ/formation icon do not function as HQs. This is a bit confusing if WAD. (for the nationals also)

It is because of the type of HQ.
Most are Division and Brigade level HQ. These only allow to add units to that OOB in a sense of building the Division or Brigade.
You cannot "attach" units to these HQ as this type of HQ is strictly limited to control the subordinates of it's own OOB.

There are a few higher ( corps and above ) HQ that you can attach units to.
A division and it's subordinate Battalions can be attached to such an HQ while the BN still are part of the Division.

But Alessandro, then when i rebuilt a unit from their subunits joining them with their parent unit/HQ, shouldnt those subunits have the "attached to" line filled with the parent name and get "HQ guidance" from parent?
I mean, i dont want/need to attach anything to Columna HQs besides their subunits, but id like subunits get "HQ guidance" from parent HQ when they "work" together.

We have 2 types of HQ support in combat.

Units of any unit OOB do get guidance from the respective BDE, RGT and DIV HQs.
This "one" type of help in combat, only valid for this one bunch of units.
It is the OOB HQ of up to Division level.

The "attached to" field is a different meaning. It works above the Division level.

Higher HQ can give additional combat performance if they are within range.
They contain the high brass who have command, control and information over a wide area radius, while unit HQs are strictly local.

This is the type of HQ you can "attach" units to by use of the button on the bottom middle of the LCU unit window.
The performance boost does apply to the attached unit AND it's OOB.

Both are automatic and require little player input in order to reduce micro management.

If the "attached" HQ is not in range, the unit makes use of other high level HQ in range that are available.
So if the HQ is not in range the game behaves as if you had changed it manually to one that is in range.

The only real effect is that units attached to an HQ use this HQ before other units can use it.
So if there is a shortage of command and control ability you can pick the units to get this help first.

In other words, if you get a lot of warnings like in this picture, then it would be best to move a higher level HQ within range. I was having a lot of this as the Nationalists were rampaging around during my last Beta test game. This was also before I had a lot of brigades and divisional HQs in the game.

So talking about the Columna parent/HQ unit giving or not “HQ guidance”, I have had these combat in Las Rozas in Galicia.

And in the Operations Report I have had a bunch of “No HQ to give guidance” messages.

Is there anything I can do to avoid it? I know “I could attach” the Columna to a higher HQ except that I don’t have an HQ available at the moment in the Republica del Norte faction.

Part of the problem is that you don't have your brigade/divisional HQs in the game yet. Don't worry about it too much but if you have extra HQs available, you can bring them by for help. The problem for the Republicans is that the North is cut off from Madrid so you can't bring in another HQ for help.
