Airfields

I can't find on the manual much details about how do Airfields work. I know you can use a Transport Air Asset to drop supplies to a friendly Airfield but how does it work exactly?

- I think I read it will give units in a 4hex range the Supplied condition. Is this influenced by enemy ZOC or EVERY friently unit will be supplied regardless?

- is this range fixed? can it be modified?

- how long does a Transport Air Asset supplies an Airfield for? Just a single turn?

- why aren't we able to drop supplies to an enemy Airfield if we capture it? This way enemy airfields are permanently unusable to us.

Hi,

If the airfield cannot be supplied from a normal supply source (as it's encircled) then you can use an Air Transport to supply it. It will only give units Extended Supply and its supply range is limited to whatever the range of the airfield is (usually 4 - it's written on the map).

That range is NOT the number of hexes, but the Movement range, so supply along a road will go further, but though trees or whatever will go less of a distance.

When you have assigned Air Transport to am airfield, you can see this range when you press S (the range of the airfield is in amber).

The range is fixe per scenario, but there are options (when creating a scenario) of ranges of 2 / 4 / 6 or 8.

Once a unit is assigned to an airfield, that airfield is a supply source until the unit is re-assigned (so it lasts "forever").

Oh, there's an assumption that the airfield would be made unusable... it's not just an airfield after all, but a supply source.

Cheers,
Brian
