Hello everyone 👋🏻

We are happy to announce a new update for the game! You can download it from the 'File Downloads" section of your registered game in your My Page tab on the Matrix website or by clicking this link: HERE

v1.06.98 – January 26, 2026
Note: version 1.06.98 will allow you to continue with any saved games you started with 1.06.66 or higher. It is recommended that you complete the reaction phase of your current game before loading it with 1.06.98.

Changes & Fixes:
• Fixed some bugs that were causing Defender Alert status to not reset correctly.
• Applied some play-balance tweaks to the Avalanche and Overlord scenario scoring putting more emphasis on the importance of troop strength.
• Defender players can now check the flight info display of an intercepting flight to see what type Attacker aircraft is being targeted.
• More fixes to put an end to the dreaded turn-back bug.
• Fixed the occurrences where the Defending side AI player was able to use far more Ops points to move units and Flak than the human player was. I’ve been wanting to address this for a long time. First turn Ops points will be 0 for Human defender side because of the automatic at-start distribution of flak and relocation of aircraft.
• Some optimizing of the Defender AI’s distribution of flak assets.
• Damaging UPEN’s made more difficult with bombs<2000 lb.
• Added some defending side AI smarts to reduce the number of intercepting aircraft attempting to target stragglers.
• Changes to night fighter intercepts to allow intercepting aircraft to continue tracking a target, even if it temporarily loses coms and radar signal due to Allied jamming. This ability is heavily dependent upon pilot experience and fatigue levels.
• Several edits made to ensure arrival dates of new factories, locations, and aircraft groups for the 1944 campaign coincide with the dates set for the 1943 campaign. Requires scenario restart.
• Replacement screen now colour coded for different aircraft types.
• Fixed the BoB Axis AI’s ability to find a gap in the CH radar without excessively detouring away from the target path.
• Fixed rare occurrence of following flights freezing in space when the lead flight has to abort the mission.

Warning: to ensure that your current PBEM games will work with the patch, please back up a copy of your btruser.dat file before you install the patch. The btruser.dat file can be found in the "DAT" subfolder of your main game folder (usually Matrix Games/Gary Grigsbys Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich).

thank you for your continued support. I'm being stumped by the install of this patch. When running the executional file, the update program is only offering to install the patch to a default location. My problem is I want to change this because my game is located on a different drive with a different title.

How can I change the target location for the patch?

thank you

I just checked and you are correct. There is no way to change the target directory during install.

That's an issue for Matrix to address.

Thanks Guys, I am a bit worried that 8AF will be tasked to hit UBoat pens for the rest of the war? We'll see what happens.

U-Boat Pens aren't mandatory targets past 1943.
The Typhoon might still be able to deal alright damage and disable the pens over multiple raids as well.

Also, if you can reduce the UFAC output to below 1000 the mandatory UPEN targeting goes away.

Thanks for the continued support as always Simovitch. I'll restart an allied and Axis long game to see how it works from both POV. Will provide feedback as always.

Cheers,

AKL

Hi Simovitch,

Axis Long Campaign vs AI, Game date 02/09/1943.

Feedback thus far:
  • AI planning and targeting is very good.
  • the issue with allied bombers flying back after mission seems a lot better, only once so far.
Unfortunately the Axis "lets all chase the lone straggler" issue remains. Repeated cases of hitting a group of allied acft and one plane chases the main tgt whilst the main body of interceptors merrily pursue a single straggler. :(
  • Night fighting still pretty useless. Raids into heavily lit, heavy flak (Ruhr, Hamburg, Berlin), and two hundred plus interceptors in loc and at bombers height or 1000ft above result in 6-10 acft downed (half + to flak) and generally 3-5 German acft crashing on landing. Will persist a bit longer and see if the FUG 212 radar makes any difference, hasn't before though. Bomber command has flown every day bar one!
Will persist for now and see what happens when I get to target the first 8th AF raids into Nth Germany (UFACs normally) and see how bad the straggler issue is on the large scale. Very weird that I never saw this before v1.06.92. Thanks as always for the hard work. For your consideration.

Cheers, AKL

Sorry, chaps, but I'm getting an Error Message: is the issue at your end, or mine?

I think it's your end:

A decompression error in Windows 10 occurs when the operating system fails to expand compressed files (like .zip, .rar, or installer packages) during extraction or installation. Common causes include insufficient disk space, file corruption, restricted user permissions, or interference from antivirus software.

I am thinking about buying this game.

What is the max resolution of the game screen? Does it run with Windows 11 or even Linux with Proton/Wine etc with modern CPUs and GPUs?

Thanks!

It's developed on 90-based technology so the max resolution is 1024x768. I don't know about anything other than the Windows 10 platform, but to get it to run full screen on W10 you need to run it through DxWnd (see other threads) Otherwise it runs OK in a smaller windowed mode on your screen. I hear that it runs on Windows 11 the same as Windows 10.

I run it on my desktop with a modern CPU and GPU just fine if I run as administrator. It presents graphically fine on my 42" screen in full screen mode, but it gets a bit pixelated when you zoom in the map.
