The Republican army voluntarily gave up the siege of Oviedo

I recently restarted a major campaign, playing as the Nationalists. In the initial phase of the war, I noticed fierce struggles in major cities on both sides, including Madrid, Granada, Seville, Gijón, and Toledo. However, one thing puzzled me: I observed that after several turns in the game, the Republican forces, which were supposed to be besieging Oviedo, suddenly abandoned the city and moved on to other combat missions. Have any of you encountered a similar situation? I’m trying to figure out why the AI would make such a decision.

Maybe because Gijon also has Nationalist forces.

The Republic of the North does not have enough forces to capture Oviedo (at the beginning of the war).

The AI is aware of this and probably assessed it this way.
However, when the AI leaves Oviedo, it will stop blocking Nationalist troops and they can threaten other surrounding cities.
