A problem of Mine

It doesn't appear the Republic receives any dedicated minelayers. The Nationalists get a few, but not until 1937. The manual references Auxilliary Minelaying, but I've tried with a few ship classes and can't get any ship to load mines.

Is there any minelaying capability on either side, aside from the Jupiter-class minelayers the Nationalists eventually get?

There must be, because the AI has laid some mines (Italian Subs, which I haven't yet tried)

Some help on this would be appreciated, thanks!

As a veteran WITP-AE player I am very familiar with the mechanics of laying mines, and I used them liberally in that game....

Try to form a minelaying TF and turn on filters for DD and DE. The ships with name in yellow will be able to lay mines.

Any ship that has H-16 V-Elia mine in his devices list will be able to lay mines.
My torpedo boats T-14 and T-20 are laying mines since day one.
There are some destroyers able to lay mines, but i have them in other duties.

Tip: Remember to activate the option "do not lay mines" to "lay mines" each time they hit the port to load more mines, the option doesnt activate automatically after first time you lay mines. They load mines when the TF is formed, i think they dont load if you add ships to already formed TF. You give them a wp, they go put mines there, DO NOT give order to "remain on station" so they come back port ( and load more mines if "full refuel" is active ( not sure if they would load mines if that is set to "no refuel")). Next turn you send them to same hex or another, but remember to let the order "lay mines" , it will be set to "do not lay mines" by default.

PD: Not sure but maybe even some Italian cruisers can lay mines too.

Thanks!

On the ship selection screen for the Minelaying TF, I wasn't expanding the choices to get those ships in YELLOW. I see that now

After reading about BB EspaƱa (which we have in the game) I don't really want to use Minelaying :)
Nice topic name btw.

Yes, a couple of them are actually SSMs.
