My top always been Gary Grisby games with fonts (map looks horrible with *125 res setting) at least playable in latest War in The East 2 in basic 1920*1080 RES. Writing of logistic log is only looks readable better than morse code. Then we join to Spanish War!

Wut?!

Using Gary Grisby Games as an example is like saying that doing your taxes on a PC is bad for your health – LOL!

Eat healthy, take regular breaks, and don't play in the dark with only your PC screen lit up – please see a doctor if you have problems with your eyes. :)

I agree with gamer78 - WITP-AE font was always too fuzzy for me. Ageod fonts are small too.

I've started using Windows Magnifier on some games with small text. Press:

Windows button + Num lock + Plus key
You can vary the magnification rate and move the panel around.
Not ideal but sometimes necessary.

----
As for black text on maroon counter (e.g. Russian in Hearts of Iron) and other awful combinations elsewhere on the web such as light grey text on white background.

I did try Windows Magnifier but did not find efficent to use for so much units. I think there are 2 main issues. Extra zoom in hexes and fonts. Hex of Steel (simpler game) have excellent zoom in very close that you see only a few hexes for whole monitor. Another game is Decisive Campaigns Ardennes that combat log seems like an error log that ordinary people shouldn't see. But very crucial how combat works, very tiny texts. They are all dedicated people-designers- of course.

We do try and push these kind of QoL issues to developers, but in a lot of cases their codebases can't support things like font scaling, zooming, etc. But we do try!

Cheers
