I cursed the British CV's as ineffective with out-of-date WW1 aircraft the whole game. I set US CVE's to carry the load in the Malay theater to support them. Mostly I hid them in Columbo. Then in late 1944 I sent them out with US carrier support, fully expecting that they might get sunk. And this happened. I'll be damned!!!!!!!

Swordfish, I forget the nickname they had, are a VERY effective TB platform. Very vulnerable to fighters, but ...

Yea, Swordfish
Early in the war it was a swordfish that hit one of the Bismarck’s rudders, jamming it and causing the ship to steam circles allowing the British ships to catch her and sink her. Also in 1940 it was Swordfish that destroyed the Italian navy in the port of Taranto . The Japanese studied this and started building Aircraft carriers.

The Japanese already had the aircraft carriers, the Taranto raid gave them the idea to attack Pearl Harbor at Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands.

A small and properly placed explosive charge could have freed the rudder and the Bismarck could have steered with her screws until she was near the port where tugs or other ships could have helped while being under fighter protection.
