Map terrain % and # of mechs question

I have 2 questions:

1) I see in the map setup area a % number which can have the number text changed (such as woods 20%). What does this mean and how does one manipulate it. I asked once before about water and I got the response that setting water to 50% means there is a 50% chance a river will appear on the map. However, it seems like no matter what % I give terrain, it does not effect the generation for a map. How do I manipulate these settings and what does that manipulation effect? Does the percent effect each hex or does it effect the map as a whole? If I want a map with lots of water how would I set it up? If I want a map with lots of mountains, how could I set that up?

2) My friend and I are playing a "campaign" where we each have our squad and we are taking on enemy random teams. Our problem is that as we take damage or lose mechs (between battles) we may have offset numbers. For example I might have 1 medium mech, but my friend has 3 recons. How can we get the enemy to have a force which matches us not only in weight, but in classes? I know I can set the number of mechs, but it seems to effect each team. So if my friend and I are team 2 and 4, we have no way to make team 1 and 2 (that I see) to have a force setup of 3 recons and 1 medium with random settings. We can either face our 4 vs their 6 (3 recons each), or their 4 (2 lights each) or their 2 (1 mediums each). The teams are locked into mirroring each other. We can not set team 2 and 4 to fight team 1 as it wants slot 3 filled. If we choose to be team 1 and 3 vs team 2 then one of us (the host) sees the enemy.

Basically, is there a way to manipulate how many titans a team (A or B) will have?

Request to Larkin:

I know the option to be able to pick enemy titans in a random battle is not going to be put in, but what about the option to be able to pick the weight class of the enemy? So, for example, we could use our campaign teams, but then could select recon rookie and light rookie for team 1 and green medium for team 3? All the mechs would be choosen at random from the mech pool, but we could have more control over the classes so we could keep a balanced fight. In other words, the weights will stay as they are generated now (or modified in options), but give the players a bit more control over what will show up. Once the tonnage starts to go up past 100 it is very hard to control what is going to be fought.

1. set map options -> back -> select map size

2. It is war, you don't have complete control of the oppositions composition. Why would you like to have it ? Isn't it a tactical challenge to meet the opposition as is ?

3. Pick titan is already in the patch (work in progress) but it won't work when you select a team from file. Its for testing and netgames only.

I have the feeling that every time I've played my three recon team against a random, equal weight opponent, the AI has played a single heavy titan. Have I just been unlucky? (I like the tactics, playing against multi-titan teams)

Its because number of requested titan is 1 (default). You can fix it by setting the number of requsted titans to 8 with set team size in the set team size setup. Setting to 2 will must likely result in 1 light + 1 recon, setting to 3 will result in 3 recons. Setting to 8 will result in whatever random picks will reveal.

Number of requsted titans does act as this. As long as the maximum team weight will fit into "number requested" * 200t the computer will try to satisfy your request. When your team will exceed 200t the default request (1) can no longer be matched and the picks will be random.

I know its been mentioned, but another vote for having team size "remember" what you enter from game to game so it doesn't default to 1. Either that or have it default to 8.

No, I demand it all 5 minutes ago! Just kidding, Larkin. ;)

I couldn't remember exactly what you had said about that, so it was just a not so subtle reminder, hehe.

Thanks, Larkin, that's an immense help ... I'd go for a default to 8, too.

Default team size 8 would just make other problems.
