Sub Hunter Bonus

I have taken an incredible amount of Sub Damage this game. Subs are at max tech. The reason for my post is that in the combat below it is showing 4 phantom sub hunter escorts on the combat results SW of Gibralter. Not sure how that is happening. There is nothing within 27 hexes. I believe there is a fighter in Gibralter, so that is not a factor either.

Any info would be appreciated. Just trying to understand what I'm missing.

It might count CVs and DDs in port within range.

The game would count those. Gibraltar is out of range at 28 hexes. There are no other ships in range.

Frankly not sure. I'd have to check the code. I haven't had to look at this for a while.

So I can confirm through testing...ships in port do count...I DID not know that.

And I can not get the bonus to reach there...

NOW were Allied ships there LAST turn and they moved out? Remember, damage to your subs is done on the Allied turn. IF they had ships within 24 on their turn they would count.

That is possible. So I can return ships to port during my turn and they still cover subs? I'll have to test that out.

I tested in hotseat.

It does not seem to work when DDs and CVs are in port (not even when the port is on the trade route like Liverpool) and also they also need to be on a trade route within range (but not necessarily on the same trade route as the sub). I did not test for Gibraltar, if we think that is a special case I can test that, too.

Sorry it was Gibraltar I tested and was shocked...I will have to test Liverpool, though remember the subs have to be within 24 hexes.

I'll look at it the up coming path in June. Right now USMC stuff is going on so I can't update.

As it represents a relatively small bonus, also since convoys themselves go port to port, and since it can represent patrols of partial units in a "counter", it does not bother me that much to be honest that the bonus could apply from ships ports. Not a big deal I think, certainly not a game breaker.

I was not overly concerned about the situation...just liked that I could have ships in Gibraltar and they protect convoys within 24 hexes.

BUT I can't get this to happen in another other port.

Hum... interesting. Not even in other ports where convoy lanes are ending?
