Question about difficuty

Hello everyone.

I was playing today the Marianas scenario, playing with Japan and the CPU as the Allies. I have installed the game using the three executables listed on the downloads page ("My page" on the top menu in this Web). No game mods, only a mod to change the visual appearance of the map.

I played with Japan and managed to achieve a major victory. I was very happy about it. But then when it finished, I checked the allied side and saw that it seemed they didn't move at all their big CVs from Pearl Harbour. I had the scenario setup as "historical" difficulty.

My question is... Is this "normal"? Meaning that I should set it up in a higher difficulty level? Or is this maybe a bug and shouldn't happen again?

What 3 executables are you referring to? The game only uses one.
What mod did you use to change the map? The Marianas scenario only uses a partial map so your mod could have affected the Allied Computer to not set sai.

The three executables listed on the download page. The setup one and the two patches. That's what I installed.

As for the map mod, it only overwrited files on the "ART" folder.

What you are calling "executables" are the original game download and a couple of updates. On your main menu, of the game, in the upper left corner is a group of numbers. Post them here. Also post a picture or two of Pearl Harbor, the ship screen and your settings....GP

Are these the letters you mentioned? I got no letters on the top left corner.

My settings:

And the pictures from when it goes to the allied after the result screen (it seems almost all of the CV's air groups are fully intact. That's what makes me think that they haven't been moved. All I've been getting are mostly Liberators to Truk and CVEs near Saipan to help invading it.

I'll give another go this weekend.
Moving the difficulty up from historical will make the allies more aggresive or just gives them... how to say... better luck with RNG calculations?

You didn't show the selection of what sides you were playing. You said you intended the Allied side to be played by the computer, but if you selected "both", the Allied side would not get orders from computer scripts but would need you to form the TFs and give them orders.

The only other thing I can think of is that the Marianas scenario may be intended to have the player only play the Allied side - i.e. there are scripts for the Japanese Computer side, but none for the Allied Computer setting.

I played Japan. Only Japan. Allied was CPU.
But after the victory screen, I get like one round with Japan and one in which i can see everything of the Aliied side (don't know if that has a proper name); that's when I took the screenshots from the Allied side. I can confirm CPU was giving orders as it approached Saipan and Guam with some CVEs and some BBs (along with CA, DD, etc). They even landed a first wave of troops in Saipan and tried to land a second one (got intercepted). That's why I don't get that CPU didn't move the big carriers.

That's what make me wonder if maybe putting it in historical difficulty does make the AI ... how to say... "less bold" ? "more careful" ?

Please forgive my ignorance (English is not my first language), but I don't know what this means or how can I do it.

First you don't need both the 26a and the 28 versions. Each one of those is a complete update. And 28 supercedes 26a

It's an either choice. I hope you didn't do the original installer, then 26, then 28.

Either do the original installer and 26a OR 28.

Ps the vh means set difficulty to very hard instead of historical.

The map you used may include bases the AI doesn't know about. If you tell us which mod, we might be able to help you.

Oh. I see!
Seeing both downloads listed there I thought I should apply both. Which one is better? The older as the other is "beta"?

Will do both recommendations. Use just one patch and put difficulty up.

Thank you very much to you all.

26a is a known quantity. 28 is well, not quite ready yet, things keep popping up and the map in 28 is filled with errors.

As someone (starting?) I'd suggest 26a.

I don't know were you are located but every image you have posted in this thread is not viewable in the UK. 'Content not viewable in you region'. The hosting platfom Imgur has blocked access apparently due to new rules coming into force. Anything posted not using the platform is OK.

Patch 26B was a progressively updated patch that fixed a few issues in patch 1125. Then 1126a incorporated most of the 1126Beta changes replaced 1125. A year or so later when work on patch 1127 started, the 1126Beta changes ceased and 1126a was updated with the latest 1126Beta changes.
So they are the same except for the shortcut the patch puts on your desktop. 1126a uses the original game shortcut which does not start the game - it starts a defunct menu program called autorun.exe. It is best to wipe out that shortcut and create one by right-click on the game .exe program and copy or drag that shortcut to the desktop. The 1126Beta puts the correct game shortcut on your desktop so you do not have to fiddle around. I think it also creates a different game directory so you could have two installs of the game in their own file directories.

So just remember - base game and ONLY 1 patch, whichever one you choose to play. If you are concerned about playing the 'in development' version 1128, I am certain that any game you start now will be compatible with any final 1128 version - your game saves will be playable.

I followed what you guys told me. Reinstalled the game and only the 1128 patch. Then put the map mod on the ART folder. Placed the game on very hard difficulty.

Then to quickly test it, I deactivated the fog of war and chose that both sides are computer.
I started again the Marianas scenario and quickly advanced turns to see what the computer did.

After a few turns, I could see both sides moving all of their CVs, CVLs and CVEs, along with their BBs and CAs.
