Upgraded Artillery too strong ?

Once the artillery is upgraded, is it too strong ?

Seems like a guaranteed kill of an opposing infantry corp after being pounded to zero entrenchment followed by 4 or so ground attacks following ..... considering 3+ artillery units, the loss of 3 opposing corp over one turn (2 wk time period) seems a tad excessive ..... Or perhaps the build limits are too generous ?

Just wondering what others think ....

If upgraded artillery could not de-entrench, the game would quickly become completely static once Trench Warfare level 2 arrived. Really, the issue is not so much with artillery as it is baked into the fact that the game is played in sequential turns, so that once an enemy corps is de-entrenched, an attacker can attack it with as many units as can move into range, which often (but not always) is enough to kill it. I always look at what happened to my defending generals after a round of attacks by the enemy. If my generals increased their experience, that tells me the defender (even if eliminated) killed more attackers than the strength points that were lost. War of attrition is very much part of the WW1 game, but in Strategic Command it plays out across an entire front and across turns, more than in individual combats.
