The Strategy Guide reads:

“An important aim will be to ensure that Manila is in Allied hands and also to land in at least one of the following locations: Taipei, Naha, Iwo Jima, Saipan or Seoul. One of these locations can then from 1st 1945, August be used as the base for dropping Atomic Bombs on Japan see DE 309. Doing so will strike a powerful blow at Japanese National Morale.”

The bold is mine. I met both conditions so was a little surprised when no Nukes were unleashed.

On closer reading, DE309 has:

“DE 309 - USA: Drop Atomic Bombs on Japan? • Event fires: From the 1st August 1945 providing the USA and Japan are fully mobilized and still belligerent and the US controls Manila and has a unit in any one of Taipei, Naha, Iwo Jima, Saipan or Seoul • Cost of accepting: 600MPPs at 150 MPPs a turn for 4 turns • Yes: The US drops a series of Atomic Bombs on Japan and Japan’s National Morale will fall by 25,000 points.”

DE309 makes it clear that the unit has to be a US unit – not an Allied unit.

Hope that helps any future Allied player.

I don't suppose there is an event where you can drop the atomic bombs on Germany if they are still around and kicking in August 1945?

I see what you mean, I will make a change here to make it clearer. Though even saying Manila has to be in US hands would not resolve it, it is the bit about a US unit, i.e. presence, that I'll have to make stand out more.
