Missing multiplayer button

Hi there,
The multiplayer button in my game has disappeared in the middle of an ongong game against a friend. I am running the steam version, and it seems to have updated to 1.00.31b whereas my oppoonent is running the matrix version 1.00.31. Unfortunately I am running linux so cant get the matrix version running and steam doesnt seem to have an option to roll back to 1.00.31 ... assuming that's the problem.
