I am preparing to make a large amphibious landing on Guam. Is it best to break it up into 2-3 waves ?

Yeah, unintended multiple thread creation is an issue I've been seeing on a lot of forum pages lately. Usually, at some point a moderator comes along and cleans them up.

One main wave with all of your combat units, then have your support units that will build up the base stay on ships.

Or, have an initial "wave" of troops land by fast transport so the main invasion will then be treated as reinforcements and not as the initial assault.

You are welcome.

The units that land by a fast transport TF will not trigger a shock attack. They could even land the turn prior. The landing should trigger an automatic bombardment attack by any enemy units. Your fast transport TF will bombard, you can even put battleships in that task force.

Looking for a little help on invasions like you. I can reinforce across a river and not trigger a shock attack if the reinforcing force is less than one third the size the friendly forces in hex ( I believe). Not sure if it's the same with amph assaults, but the manual does explain it in detail.
Overkill on the first wave! You are trying to get as much combat power on shore in one attack. The trick is to land your second (reinforcing) wave without triggering a shock attack. I think non AV units, art and engineers do not trigger a shock attack and only take casualties from beach defenses. Never unload fragments of already unloaded combat units in the second wave, triggers a shock attack.

Best advice I ever got for amph assaults was from BB: load your APA's only half with troops and half supply: All your troops will unload on Day 1 with enough supply to last a week.

If you click on "SUBMIT" and the circle of waiting appears for more than 10 seconds, you can highlight and copy your post to your clipboard, then use the directory path at the top of the screen to go back to the forum you were in before that thread.
