"Stop Gap" campaign questions

A few questions on this campaign:
In Scenario 2, we are given several engineer units, but there is no apparent application for these units (only a few bridges exist, and those are well to the rear of the line of contact). In my playthrough, these units remained idle throughout the scenario. What is the intended use of these units?
In Scenario 3, I was able to defeat the entire attacking force with only a few Bradleys lost (the majority of attackers never engaged my units due to very low (50 m) visibility). The WP force was using USSR BP 1 in my playthrough, which involved the first attack being in the north and a second attack made by armor in the south (there was also a separate force that crossed in the north but remained well north of the objectives). Is this BP/scenario intended to be fairly lopsided as in this playthrough?
