Suwałki Gap 2025 – ZAPAD Variation v2.0
After a substantial redesign, Suwałki Gap 2025 – ZAPAD Variation v2.0 is ready for release.
This is not simply an updated OOB or balance patch. Version 2.0 substantially reworks the operational logic of the scenario, AI behavior, victory conditions, logistics and the representation of the 2025 battlefield.

Scale: 5 km/hex
Turn length: 6 hours Length: 28 turns / 7 days
Theater: northeastern Poland, southern Lithuania, Kaliningrad Oblast and western Belarus

The scenario depicts a limited but rapidly escalating Russian operation aimed at establishing a viable land connection with Kaliningrad while NATO attempts to contain the penetration, preserve Lithuanian freedom of action and prevent the corridor from becoming operationally sustainable.

Changes in v2.0:

Major Russian and NATO OOB revision
Revised equipment values and AP/AT normalization
Expanded UAV / ISR representation
Reworked supply and logistics
New and revised road network in the Suwałki–Lazdijai–Alytus area
Extensive redesign of Programmed Opponent objective tracks
Revised Belarus escalation mechanics
Additional Russian reserve and escalation options
Numerous event-chain corrections and refinements
The most important change is the victory system.
Earlier versions placed too much emphasis on territorial occupation. In v2.0, Victory Objectives have been redesigned to reflect operational significance rather than simple territorial control.
The scenario now places greater emphasis on:
communication axes, transport nodes, operational depth, continuity of the corridor, and the ability to sustain operations through it.
Control of the corridor is therefore not defined by a line painted across the map.
A minimal penetration through southern Lithuania may create geographical continuity, but a durable Russian success requires control of the road network, crossings and key nodes necessary to make that corridor operationally useful.
In other words:
The corridor is not a line on the map. It is a functioning operational system.
The redesigned road network also makes locations such as Lazdijai, Seirijai, Alytus, Kalvarija, Marijampolė and Prienai considerably more important than their size alone might suggest.
Neither side operates in a strategic vacuum.
Belarusian participation can significantly alter the campaign, while Russia can commit additional formations at a political/Victory Point cost. NATO likewise has to decide how aggressively to reinforce the threatened sector and how much combat power it is prepared to risk.
The result is deliberately not scripted.
A Russian breakthrough does not automatically produce a viable corridor, and NATO does not have to recover every lost hex to prevent a Russian victory.
This is not a scripted corridor rush. It is a maneuver contest with escalation thresholds.

The scenario has been extensively tested with the Programmed Opponent on both sides, including multiple AI-vs-AI balance runs. Outcomes vary substantially according to operational decisions and escalation events.
Both sides can win.
The scenario’s victory system is built around operational corridors, communication axes and key nodes rather than simple territorial occupation.
