Seems scoring "airbase hits" with a few puny bombs (30kg and 50kg) somehow creates a huge disruption in BFs guarding the base.

Here is an air raid on Wuchow.

And here is the aftermath. A jump of 74 Disruption point with no hits scored on the BF itself.


Now, were I to directly attack the BF in a Ground Attack mission, I would probably inflict i.e. 3 disruption/5 fatigue on the BF.

Airfield Attack mission is a nice way of messing with BF's infantry component of 40 Chinese rifle squads.

AF Support troops (HQ, Art, AA, Eng, AV Support, etc.) are legitimate targets of an AF attack mission so it's no surprise they were targetted what is, is the level for such a small raid. Just smile and say yeah! that'll teach you.

Disruption dropped to 49 points next turn.

The first time a base is attacked by bombers there is a "surprise" effect where the troops do not take cover in time. A lot of the disruption seems to be troops running in different directions and ending the attack far from their squad leader. Disruption is just the inability of the leader to get enough of them together to start working immediately. So in a BF, things like repairing/loading aircraft (Air Support) and preparing food (general Support) would be reduced for that 12 hour phase. That's the way I picture it and it fits what I see in effects.
A subsequent air attack same day or next day causes less disruption. A break of at least 5 days between attacks increases the disruption again (compared to day after day).
