AI turning off sometimes

Is it normal that the AI turns off completely and stops moving any counters after the first few turns? I noticed that in a bunch of 1948 Scenarios even when playing as the designated side (I didn't play many future scenarios yet and don't want to randomly face this way after starting a long mission.)

I understand these use the old Engine AI but is it supposed to do nothing after a bit? Or a bug?

Which ones and how many turns in? Any saves the turn before this happens?

The two offenders were "Yad Mordechai" where I took Side A and only skipped my turn (testing), the Side B AI attacked and surrounded me until around turn 4 and after that it did nothing, not moving any counter or assaulting anything until the end of the game. And the other was "For the Bull" as Side B where Side A just took the first point then stopped moving units until the end of the scenario. I know this scenario is designated H2H but I still think the AI isn't supposed to freeze completely.

I have save files of the end of the missions but not before this happens, I can try to recreate it and save every round until it happens if this could help.

I'm sure Jason will see this shortly. I'll give those a try on my end and see if I have the same experience. I tried a couple of 48 scenarios to see but only a couple of turns.

Ran "For the Bull" all the way through with FOW turned off. Except for a few armored cars that didn't move all the unfixed units moved and fired until the end. Can't seem to find the other scenario "Yad Mordechai" on my list. Is it a 48 scenario?

I took another look and Yad Mordechai was the file name; it was called "the last battle" in the launcher.
Anyways I seem to have fixed it on my end by installing the game on another device, the AI worked twice in the same scenarios.

I'll post the specs of the laptop where it didnt work in case it helps solve the problem for the future:

OS: Windows 11 64-bit (10.0, build 26200)
CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1334U (12CPUs) ~1.3 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: Intel(R) UHD Graphics

Idk if you need anything else I can try to give it. Thanks for the help!

Ok it just happend again on my other PC in "For The Bull" playing as Side B against side A.
I uploaded a zip with 2 saves, one in turn 2 where it looked normal, then in turn 4 after it stopped moving anything for 2 turns in a row.

The Israelis were concentrated in the blue circle at around turn 2-4

Here is turn 15, they still did not move a single unit outside this area, only the units standing in place getting in and out of my vision every now and then.

I think that scenario is intended to be played as Side A.

Until the scenarios are scripted, it seems that HAL doesn't perform as well as it used to.

At the moment, I'd venture to say the best experience is PBEM, unless you're fighting against a defended AI.

Always happy to play!

I guess I'll practice on other missions/attacking and if I get time I'll try out PBEM.
Can't wait to try scripted Middle East missions!

Try the "Crisis in Sirte" 1 and 2, think those are the only CS scripting engine scenarios in CSME. If you have an interest in Vietnam, that game is all scripted (as long as you play the recommended side) and I can whole heartedly recommend that one.
