Newbie IJN question

I'm playing one of the 3 month scenarios as the IJN for the first time (may-aug42 I believe), My Kates took quite a beating against USN Flak, but at least I belive put a couple of hits below the waterline on the lex and yorktown. However, here's my question - do I need to send the IJN carriers in question back to Truk for replacement airgroups or back to Japan - in which case I may not see them for the rest of the period of the game...Suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi, Just go to Rabaul for a few days. You will not get new airgroups but the carrier airgroups will get new aircraft and pilots.

I have been playing for 15 months and never knew that!

If you could list all the stuff I don’t know perhaps I could actually improve my play.

So for I have a 100% Loss record :)

Land Based Airgroups

Hi, The same thing applies to land based air groups. They need to be within transfer range of Noumea or Brisbane to get replacement aircraft.
One of the reasons the allies have a hard time at Port Moresby early in the long campaigns is their P-39 groups will not get replacement aircraft.
You need to keep a few groups at Townsville and when the Port Moresby group gets reduced fly it back to Townsville and move a fresh group to Port Moresby. If you place all your groups at Port Moresby no new P-39s can arrive (they stay in the pool)
Longer range aircraft can stay further away but all aircraft have a limit before they will not recieve replacements.
In WITP airgroups get their replacements from their HQ so they need to stay within transfer range of their HQ.

I think that one or two "hops" are allowed for replacement aircraft to
come...

Pretty sure I've had P400/P39 units get replacements at PM....
