Grenade threat backfires on dopey thug
Phnom Penh, Cambodia , September 8
A Cambodian man accidentally blew himself up after he tried to extort money from a drug dealer - and forgot to return the pin to the hand grenade he was threatening to use.
Khim Sakhorn - a former military police officer - went to a home in central Phnom Penh on Friday night to demand money and pills from an amphetamine dealer.
"After he received the money, he put the grenade into his pocket, walked back and got on his motorbike, but the grenade exploded," Hoy Song, the Daun Penh district deputy police chief, said.
"He forgot to put the pin back into the grenade," he said.
"He was in a drunken condition."
Sakhorn, 38, was nicknamed "The Big Giant" for his size. Police said he had just been released from prison and routinely trolled brothel areas at night to extort money and pills from pimps and drug dealers.
