Is DirectX 9.0 a requirement

Hello,

This is not a bug report per se as the bug is with another program that I know is some time away from getting a patch.

Basically installing the DirectX 9.0a that came with my KP screwed up another game of mine that refuses to recognize 9.0a as a later version of DirectX (that game requires version 8.1)

Will KP run under DirectX 8.1 or is 9.0a or later a requirement?

DirectX compatibility may force me to choose which game to keep on my hard drive.

Thank you for your attention,

Tangent

No its an optional install after installing the game and I haven't touched it ie: I'm running Dx8.1 on WinXP.

KP needs DirectX 8.1 as a "minimum" but of course works with more recent versions. We allways put the most recent DirectX version on our Game CDs.

Just out of interest, what is that other game that refuses to work with DirectX 9 ?

Star Fleet Command 3. Actually it's an easy choice to keep KP on the hard drive but I have not actually seen SFC3 run even once after buying it the other day.

I realise that this is not the SFC3 tech support forum, but I've run it fine with DirectX 9.0a, are you sure it's not some other problem? I did have 9.0a insalled before I installed SFC3 though.

It is definitely a problem with SFC3. The program states that DirectX 8.1 is not installed and then proceeds to crash. This is in spite upgrading to DirectX 9.0b and reinstalling SFC3. I also tried upgrading my video driver.

The funny thing is that Star Fleet Command: Orion Pirates works fine under DirectX 9.0b.

I checked the Taldren forum and there appear to be many problems with SFC3 and the patch has been continuously postponed due to problems at Activision and between Activision and Paramount.

You asked and I answered but I am not going to add to this thread since this is clearly not a Matrix problem.

Thank you for your concern.

I've got the SFC3 patch for Directx9 back last May and have not had any problems since then. The patch is less than 500kb in size to download at: http://download.activision.com/activisi ... X9_Fix.exe
I tested the link. It's very slow tonight but I got the file again w/ problem.
