Where Oh Where Have My Pilots Gone, Oh Where Oh Where Can They Be?

I know why my Replacement Pilots Suck!!

They have been sucked in to Patrol Wings.

3 Squadrons of 9 planes each have a total of over 130 Pilots!?!?!?!?!

Reason Why

Hi, I know why this has happened. As each of Dadmans pilots finish training they are asked what duty they want.

Fighter.....No Sir
Bomber....No Sir
Patrol......Why yes thank you sir.

The Japanese patrol groups fill their massive flying boats with goodies and sit around all day. They only have to fly once every four or five days.

(No actually this is known and being looked at. )

You should transorm both Mavis groups into fighter wings - just look at the leader stats... :D
Maybe it helps to disband the groups and hope to get the pilots where you want to have them.

But anyway this looks certainly like a bug.

BTW, what kind of background screen are you using? Is that to be found somewhere on Spookys site?

Hi, It is a bug and is being fixed in WITP.

If this happens in your game (to whom it may concern) Do not disband units. (this leaves the pilots on map)

You need to have two groups at same base. When 1 group has at least 1 ac under repair move this group to a new base. All the excess pilots will stay with the damaged AC. Now WITHDRAW the partial unit. The pilots go off map (and since the partial airgroup will not reform the pilots return to pool)

Nice workaround, thanks Mogami :)
I have a few of these squadrons in my PBEM games and will try this.

Nice tip Mogami, thanks.

I wonder if this is another "unseasoned/junior programmer array bug" that we seem to be hearing about at the moment. ;) :D

They all like the allure of making Sake' runs from Tokyo...Sake' runs from Tokyo...

Not in my game. Most excess pilots move with the parent formation. The sub-unit with the damaged planes often has as many pilots left as it has damaged planes, or a roughly proportional share of the excess pilots.

Right LargeSlowTarget, it doesn't work for me either.

I'd have thought modifying the code for pilot pools would be one of the simpler things to fix in UV.
After all, there is a variable associated with every squadron showing max number of aircraft in the squadron.

My pilot pool is haemorrhaging in a major way in one of my PBEM's.
Squadrons that have absolutely no need for new pilots are receiving one or two a turn and others in dire need of pilots are getting none :(
Heck, I have B17 squads with 25 pilots (with new skill 48 pilots added daily:() and PBY squads with 50-60 pilots !
As a result, when a squad after losses in combat needs new pilots, they are getting untrained riffraff.

C'mon Matrix, get your act together...a two year old could do a better job of programming this.
