Korsun Pocket won't start.

After installing Korsun Pocket (seemingly without problem) nothing happens when I click on "Play Korsun Pocket". I've been very disappointed in the help, or rather lack of help, I've received with this problem. I thought I'd give this Forum a try before I return the game.

Not sure if this will help, but many problems stem for install path, if you have it installed into program files\Matrix games

if this is the case may I suggest trying Matrix Games\korsan pocket install path.

Worth a try if thats the case.

Or to rephrase it, the game only seems to run if you install in the default folders

It doesn´t make a difference where you actually install thegame too. The links don´t care if it´s the default install paths or not.

Did you try running the game from:

a. Start Menu / Korsun Pocket / Korsun Pocket Quick Load
b. By starting directly from the korsun.exe in thegames directory

I have tried to start Korsun Pocket from the desktop, from the start menu (quick load) and from Korsun Pocket.exe. The result is the same - nothing. I'd really like to get this game running; it received such great reviews.

Korsun Pocket will not execute

I also cannot get KP to run. It seemed to install without a problem. When I attempted to run the program a warning box appeared (it said something like start.ext and gave what appeared to be a memory address). I then had to recover my desktop!

FYI, I am running Windows98 on a Dell XPS-5000. Pentium 3, tons of RAM and other memory, but I realize that this is a stone age machine in this day and age. What gives? I don't want to return the game.

Hi jshetler,

My system is very similar to yours and I experienced the same problem. I continue to use Windows 98 because some of my favorite games will not run with later OSs, but KP is the only game I've ever had difficulties with. In my case it had to do with a soundcard incompatibility which I've yet to rectify. Make sure all your drivers are up to snuff.

One more thing, if you have not installed DirectX 9.0, I highly recommend you do not. Plentiful internet testimonies show that it evidently does not get along at all well with Windows 98. It has rendered several of my other games unplayable and will require me to reformat the entire rig, since 9.0 cannot be uninstalled (thanks a bunch Microsoft  ). The company has released a 9.0b version but even this apparently causes added problems.

My solution for KP? Play it at work, and get a new PC at home.
