First off... WELCOME! The more the merrier!

Biggest tip I can give you for just starting out is to get the feel of the 'turn' system it's not like anything else out there. There are several threads on the forum that can help you out in this reguard. Some people pick it up quickly (a couple games) some can take a while longer, but once they figure it out, it makes the best sense for this type of game then anything else by far.

Other then that it's just what questions you can come up with once you get the game. There's a few threads on placing your development points for a rookie team somewhere on the forum, that can be handy or you can use the one provided with the game. The game has considerable depth but this doesn't significantly hinder beginning play and you can 'delve' into the depths as you start noticing thier effects at whatever speed you wish. You'll pick up some of the bigger aspects of the game like heat managment, recycle times, movement/terrian/defensive modifiers pretty rapidily.

After you finish the tutorial game, if you want to play a campain, there is a pre-rookie campain posted here on the forum that alot of people says helped them alot "Deep Core" may want to try it before the rookie campain that comes with the game or you can jump right into the rookie campain. Also would suggest you download the 'unoffical titan database' as it improves alot of the titans, especially in the lower weight catagories and since these are the ones you'll start out with.... Also there's a patch due out very soon with some minor-ish fixes and some new features.

Welcome as well.

SD covered it well. Check out the sticky advice threads for lots of good tips.

Thanks Sleeping Dragon & Rebel Yell,

So what I'm looking for is:

1. Pre-Rookie Campain download
2. Unoffical Titan Database
3. Patch ( When it comes out)

I have not looked for these on the forums yet. What where can I find these at. ?

So you say look out for the " Turn" System. I will understand once the game come in but now that is in my head i will watch for it. i have been reading some what on this forums all day in and out of classes at college and remeber reading something about " Skills Check" but thats a different subject off topic. Where to find these things is my real question .

-& Thank You ALL for you helpful tips. if anyone has anymore they think i should know by all means... ty .

I'd just emphasise what Sleeping Dragon said about the turn system, it's very well designed but can take some getting used to. Stick with it, and refer to some of the good advice here if you have troubles.

Click the link in the TOSWS game menu that says scenario archive for any new campaigns or missions. It should lead you directly to them with a brief description and the download.

Thank you ,
I got the game and the first thing i did was load it and take a look around inside the game, and put in all those extra you told me about in the other posts.
HQ, factory, BattlField. Started reading the book, ( wow they should have used color or better printer for the pictures on that) i read through and did as it toldme make my first jock then made 2 more. total of 3 and the got 3 titans. went to factory nd looked at each one of them. dont understand some of the stuff on the factory thing tell me about the Titan but I need to finish reading maybe that will help ( duh) Then started the Tut. mission and got about 1/4 of the was throug it. it was Sunday , school next day. So i will get that all take care of this week and hopefully start the Deep Core Soon. and be on my way.

Thank you so much for you help i keep posting here if I need anything. So Far its going pretty good. i was reading the info that pops up on your screen in the Tut. mission and i didnt understand it until i closedthe window looked around my screen and just started clicking around THEN went back and read. LOL Learn by doing i would say. anyway ..... THANK YOU SO MUCH THUS FAR...

:)

Should I or Shouldn't I ????????

OK i have started the Tut. i dont have much time to play so iget about 30 mins in a night and i just keep starting over the Tut. ( SO i better understand it getting a little farther everytime)
My real question is this i did already make a squad of 3 and got 3 Titans.
My question is . What do you think? Wheni made the Jocks i used as much of there skil points as I could ( 333) until i could not longer do anything with them due to the cost and what not, do you think that is advisable ? or should I just use some of them ?????? I havent started any mission in which I will need them so can " Dismiss " them if needs be. ???????????

THANKS YOU in advance

If you are planning on playing through the deep core campaign then I wouldn't worry to much whether you got your squad right or not. Just jump right into the game. You can resolve any squad related problems as you go.

I would also browse through the recon titans to see what types of skills they require. If you like a particular titan you might want a jock that has the skills to pilot it successfully. You may also wish to just make a titan from scratch to fit your pilots skills. All perfectly acceptable.

Generally its a good thing to go ahead and spend your development points as soon as you get them, unless you are saving them up so you can raise an ability score. You don't 'use' them for anything else so there's GENERALY no reason to save'em up.

When you're employing a new rookie jock, you start out with something over 300 points to spend. If you run your cursor over the skill list, you'll see which attributes improve that skill displayed in the border at top left of your screen; boosting the first attribute has more effect on improving the maximum skill. Try to get recon piloting up to 60%, one combat skill to 60% (use any excess on close combat), and, in order of jock creation, leadership, business and damage control up to 60% (with excess going on scan). If you create a fourth jock, you might want to go for 60% scan.
You're limited by the fact that the more points you spend on improving your highest possible skill%, the less points that are left to bring your actual skill up towards that maximum. So you could spend lots of points improving your maximum skill, only to find that you didn't have enough points left to give you a reasonable "real" skill. When I'm setting the main attributes, I try not to let the remaining development points go below about 160, to give me enough to bring the actual skill values up.

It's quite a balancing act. I just went off and created a new jock, to check. You may find that you can't get a maximum skill above 60% without your remaining DPs dropping below 150. You'll get a bit of discussion about this: should you start with high maximum skills but with actual skills below this, or should you aim for a lower maximum skill, but play your first match with your real skill at maximum?
For me, I prefer to go for a lower maximum skill (which means around 170 DPs being left over after adjusting the attributes). However, this does mean that, if your team survives and gains experience, it may be quite a time before you can build up enough points to improve your attributes and increase your maximum skill%.

Also, when starting a new squad. The 1st jock recruited should be your leader.. make sure you allocate her DPs before you recuit any other jocks, since her leadership skill will affect the quality of the subsequent recruits. DON'T recruit the whole team THEN adjust the leader's DPs....

yes... if you noted the pronoun useage... Most of my team leaders tend to be human females... Bussiness leaders and mechanics tend to be replicant I (either sex, but usually one of each) and the 4th is a male cyborg or an android. A combination of 'max-minning' and playstyle.

"Wait" "On Call"-Scan action

by Ger'miah KaI'ic
Good to know.
OK i have some DumbAss, slap my self after you tell me , ( I knew that ) Questions.... LOL :) :)

I am still working on the Tut. ( excuse: I'm a college student, need I say more)
I ran throuhg about half of it and i still keep starting it over to understand it better but I still a little Missty about some things:::

I kind of understand What the "" Wait "" thing is i understand how to use it but dont under stands it REal use what does it me , what reason is it need to "" wait"" I would like to understand it better. For example the problem/strange i have been having is in the Tut. when it teachs you to "lock on" to the hex with the building i "right click" and it does nothing then i went to " wait" and hit " On call" and then it locked--Highlighted the hex-- and began to fire. ( So glade for the that "x" short cut, alot fast then having to go through that whole thing)
The example shows some what of my question about " Wait" Why did have to hit wait, " On call"?

Another one is i got the part were i have to "lock on" to the dummy Titan, It was already set on "Wait' 'On call" so i right click and the small menu came up and i changed from the hex to the titan i the hew and it locked.OK Now it wants me to scan And i cant get it to Allow me to scan. its shaded out . i have palyed past this before just hiting some butto,(not really acknowledging what I did) Now i am going back and really watching what i'm doing to learn it. and i cant seem to get the scan to work. I hit toggle scann, when back and did "wait' 'on Call" and nothing. HMMMmmmm ?????????

-I have a 4 day week end this week so I can get through it hopefuly.. it is becoming kind borning but for some strange reason i am not minding going over and over the Tut. that shows me this Game has great potenial, and i'm not one to give up on something( ya, since I payed for it.lol) I liek this game so far its looks like it can REAALY fun, i just need to get pas this and i will be fine, i THANK all of you guys for you help thus far. Since i have had to play this in small bits. SO i thank you in adv. THANK YOU ....

There are two control menus for your Titan: the move menu and the attack menu. Both have to have an order before the turn progresses. When you order the Titan to lock on the building, this is an attack menu order. Control then switches to the move menu, which is where you use "Wait... On Call". This gives the move menu an perpetual command; until you specifically call the menu (via the attack menu "Call Move" or the F3 menu), the Titan will not ask for a move command (I think after around 500 secs on a "Wait" command, the Titan prompts for another command, but don't quote me). After the "Wait... On Call", the game proceeds through game secs until the "Lock" command finishes executing, at which point the attack menu prompts for a command. Then things go boom.

As for your problems with the dummy Titan, it sounds like you toggled your scanner off, rather than using Active Scan. There are two buttons on the top row of the attack menu directly related to the scanner. The buton on the left (to the right of the "ECM" button and above the "Wait" button), which looks like 4 expanding curved lines, is the "Toggle Scanner" button. Under most circumstances, this should be blue. Hitting this button will turn the scanner on/off. Except in extreme cases, do not hit this button. You want your scanner on (blue) 99.95% of the time. The next button to the right, which looks like an "A" with two curved lines above it, is the "Active Scan" button. If you are locked on a Titan within scanner range, this button will be either green or yellow, depending on the range to target (in the Tutorial, it will be green). Hit this button to perform the scan.

It sounds like you put the move menu on "Wait... on Call", turned off the scanner, then put the attack menu on "Wait... on Call". Thus, your Titan did nothing.

Hope that helps. And we won't slap you; we'd rather shoot you. :D
