Colour display problem

(I didn't realise this one until I saw the game running on another computer.)
On the battle screen, the colours are wrong. The background colours for the different arenas are: Standard - ash grey; Savanannah- grey and mustard yellow; Polar-white (with unseen hexes red); Core-grey; Biochem-grey. I've tried 16 and 32 bit colour depth.
I don't know if it's linked to this problem, but a) when I tried to start up 1.4, it corrupted (permanently) the windows desktop background from greeny-blue to white; and b) If I open Windows Explorer or Word while WS is running, the WS colours are corrupted (to a messy pale blue).
What information would you like?

Tried all depths (16/24/32), can't reproduce. What exactly caused this? What exactly is the effect? What do you mean by background colors for the arenas? Are you aware that there are 2 different sets of textures for each battlefield type? Maybe attaching a pic would help. Can you reproduce it?

I'll try to get a pic of it within the next day.

1 By background colours, I mean, for example, the "grass" in the the standard arena
2 How do you select the different palettes?
3 How can I view a pcx file?

Check the HeightTexture?.bmp files in the images folder, they define the textures for the 3D maps.
The battle module selects the palletes, not the player.
You can use Paint to view PCX files, should be the default. Or Photo Editor or whatever.

Here are two savannah arenas; one murky and one (from my other computer) a normal green. I'm going to delete and reinstall first 1.4, then WS, to see if the problem clears.

Thorgrim: problem solved. I was running the display at 256 colours instead of 16 bit. I changed to the cruder display weeks ago when I was looking at an old game (the Journeyman Project) and forgot to switch back. I'm sorry to have wasted your time.
